Violet Grohl, the 20-year-old daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, has shared a tear-jerking tribute to Jennifer Precious Finch, the bassist of rock band L7 and her father's former girlfriend, who died on Saturday at the age of 59 after a battle with aggressive brain cancer.
Violet's Heartfelt Message
Reacting to the announcement of Finch's death on Instagram, Violet wrote: 'This is so devastating, she was such a force xx made so many feel so seen. rest in peace legend.' Her message came as the music world mourned the loss of the L7 star, known for hits like Fast and Frightening and Pretend We're Dead.
Dave Grohl, 57, dated Finch in the early 1990s. While the relationship did not last, the pair are believed to have remained friends. As of now, the Foo Fighters frontman has not publicly commented on her passing.
Finch's Battle with Cancer
Finch's family confirmed her death in a statement on Instagram, writing: 'We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even more so.' They requested privacy to grieve.
Just five days before her death, a GoFundMe campaign revealed that Finch had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The fundraiser noted: 'Unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks. The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations.' Finch had previously battled thyroid cancer.
L7's Reunion and Final Tour
In 2016, L7 reunited after a 15-year hiatus, partly to support Finch and bandmate Suzi Gardner through personal hardships. Lead singer Donita Sparks told Stomp and Stammer: 'We were kind of estranged from each other. Jennifer was ill [thyroid cancer], so she was going through that.'
In May 2026, the band announced a final North American tour titled The Last Hurrah 2026, set to begin in October, with plans for a new EP. However, on 13 July, it was revealed that Finch would not join the tour due to her brain cancer diagnosis. Tragically, she died just five days later.
Finch's passing leaves a void in the music community, with fans and fellow musicians remembering her as a pioneering force in rock.
