Sky News presenter Kay Burley, 62, has raised eyebrows after revealing she is undertaking a 10-day fast at a health clinic. The broadcaster shared her experience on social media, admitting she felt 'a little bit anxious' but hoped to inspire followers who might be considering a similar challenge.
Burley explained that she had consulted a doctor and nurse before starting the fast and was taking 'fasting minerals' three times a day. She also showed a list of activities at the clinic, including swimming, to pass the time. 'I suppose the biggest thing is not really eating very many calories,' she said.
While some followers expressed interest, others voiced concerns. One commenter wrote: 'Good luck but can’t imagine this type of thing can benefit the human body at all.' Another urged her to stop, calling her a 'goddess' who did not need to fast.
Burley has been providing daily updates, revealing that on the first day she consumed an '800 calorie feast' of fruit, chard, and mashed potato. The next day, her intake dropped to 300 calories, with lunches consisting of carrot and beetroot soups.
Experts note that prolonged fasting may aid weight loss and improve blood pressure, but side effects can include fatigue, nausea, and headaches. The scientific evidence for such fasts remains limited.
