TV Chef Dom Taylor Dies: Five Star Kitchen Winner Floors Fans

Beloved TV chef Dom Taylor, who won Channel 4's Five Star Kitchen: Britain's Next Great Chef, has died suddenly, his restaurant team confirmed. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

His death was announced by his team at The Good Front Room (TGFR) in East London, the restaurant he opened after his television victory. A statement read: "We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of our founder, Chef Dom Taylor. Dom was a visionary whose bold, joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to London's restaurant scene."

Tributes Pour In for Award-Winning Chef

The statement continued: "His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food. He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time. Fans were left "completely floored" by the news, with many taking to social media to express their shock. One fan wrote: "This news about Chef Dom Taylor is really sad. May he rest in perfect peace." Food writer Melissa Thompson said: "Sending love and strength to the team. Dom was a very special person." Another added: "Dom was a friend of my friends. They are heartbroken. A thoroughly decent, talented, kind guy. RIP Dom."

From TV Victory to East London Success

Dom Taylor was passionate about Caribbean flavours and launched his own private catering business before appearing on the Channel 4 competition. Securing victory led to the opening of TGFR, which started as a dining concept at the Langham Hotel. He collaborated closely with the show's host Michel Roux Jr to reinvent popular dishes like jerk chicken and ackee and saltfish. The pop-up was initially slated to run for six months, but due to its success, it lasted for 10.

Dom launched The Good Front Room in Dalston earlier this year. Upon its opening, Dom said: "The Good Front Room is inspired by my great-aunt Myrtle and the sacred front rooms found in so many Caribbean homes, spaces reserved for special guests and imbued with pride and memory. As a grandchild of the Windrush generation, I feel a duty to carry the torch and keep our stories, recipes, and traditions alive."

Restaurant to Continue His Legacy

The Good Front Room will remain open, as the team stated: "The Good Front Room will remain open as we honour Dom's legacy and continue the work he was so passionate about. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult period."
