Donald Trump once told Katy Perry she had made a "big mistake" by marrying Russell Brand, who was found guilty of rape and sexual assault on Thursday (Nov 5).
Back in 2011, five years before he entered the White House, Trump waded into their relationship, stating that while he liked the British comedian, he believed the American pop star would come to regret her decision of marrying him.
The Teenage Dream singer and Brand wed in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony held in India. After Brand famously ended his marriage to Perry over text in December 2011, their divorce was officially finalised in 2012 just after 14 months of marriage.
Trump's 2011 Warning
The day before Brand filed for divorce, Trump posted on Twitter: "I like Russell Brand, but Katy Perry made a big mistake when she married him. Let's see if I'm right - I hope not."
By 2014, Trump had also hailed Brand a "major loser" and "total joke".
Brand Convicted of Rape and Sexual Assault
Disgraced star Brand, 51, now faces years behind bars after a jury convicted him of one count of rape and three sexual assaults at Southwark Crown Court.
A four-week trial revealed how he preyed on women he met during his rise to become one of Britain's most recognisable stand-up comedians, a celebrated TV and radio presenter, and a Hollywood film star.
The jury acquitted him of two counts of rape and one charge of attempted indecent assault.
Judge Mr Justice Bennathan ordered that Brand be remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on Monday, when he is expected to receive a lengthy prison term.
Years of Feuding
Trump and Brand have had several spats over the years with the US president labelling the comic a "major loser" back in 2014.
The US president previously said: "I watched Russell Brand and I think his mind is fried - he looks really bad. Russell is a total joke, a dummy who is lost."
In a separate post from October 2014, he wrote: "Katy Perry must have been drunk when she married Russell Brand - but he did send me a really nice letter of apology!"
Brand fired back at the time: "Donald Trump are you drunk when you write these tweets? Or does that foam you spray on your bald head make you high?"
The following day, Trump hit back: "Katy, what the hell were you thinking when you married loser Russell Brand. There is a guy who has got nothing going, a waste!"
Brand's Recent Alignment with Trump
Despite their bitter feud, Brand appeared to align himself with Trump in more recent times.
He stated in June: "My support for Trump was generally based upon we got to break up this globalist, imperialist threat...Trump, I always saw as an incredible bulwark."
He further lauded the President's "personal confidence and swagger" after Trump rebranded artificial intelligence as super intelligence back in September.
While Perry was not included in the prosecution case against Brand, he did reference his brief marriage to her while giving evidence.
