Trump Accused of Lying About Height After Photo Comparison
Trump Accused of Lying About Height After Photo

A recent photograph of President Donald Trump at the US Capitol has sparked accusations that he is dishonest about his height. The image, showing Trump alongside Senate Majority Leader John Thune, prompted Joanna Coles, chief creative and content officer at The Daily Beast, to assert that Trump is “clearly lying about his height.”

Photo Sparks Height Debate

The photo in question was taken on Wednesday, June 24, as Trump and Thune walked side by side to a luncheon with the Republican Senate Steering Committee. Coles discussed the image on The Daily Beast's YouTube channel with journalist Michael Wolff, pointing out the apparent height difference. “John Thune is six foot four. Donald Trump insists he's six foot two, but he's shrinking,” she said. “He's definitely not six foot two. I mean, John Thune looks like he's got four inches on him there.”

Trump's official height, as stated in a May memo from his physician Dr. Sean Barbabella, is 6ft 3in (190cm). The memo, released by the White House, declared Trump “in excellent health” and listed his weight at 238lbs (108kg). This claim places him well above the US male average height of 5ft 9in.

Previous Height Comments

The controversy comes after Trump himself commented on the height of Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing him as “very tall – especially for this country” and “straight out of central casting,” a reference to a Hollywood agency that supplies film extras. In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump said, “If you went to Hollywood and you look for a leader of China, to play a role in a movie, he's central casting... you couldn't find a guy like him.”

Coles, who is a former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, suggested that Trump's height discrepancy is part of a pattern of deception. “He gets away with so many things. One of the things I'm slightly fascinated that he gets away with is clearly lying about his height,” she said.

Impact and Reactions

The photo has reignited discussions about Trump's physical stature, with some commentators noting that his apparent shorter height could affect his public image. Coles remarked, “I know that size isn't supposed to matter, but I think it does in this situation.” The White House has not commented on the latest claims.
