The BBC has confirmed that three-time World's Strongest Man champion Tom Stoltman will join the cast of Gladiators as a replacement for Giant, who departed the show earlier this year.
Stoltman, 32, from Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands, is one of the most successful strongmen in history. He was the first Scottish athlete to win the World's Strongest Man title and has dominated the sport with his strength, athleticism, and determination.
Stoltman's Excitement for the New Role
In a statement, Stoltman expressed his enthusiasm: "This is a dream opportunity and I'm incredibly proud to become a Gladiator. I've spent my life pushing myself to see what I can achieve and joining this incredible show is the next challenge. I'm excited to bring my strength, determination and personality to the arena but, most importantly, I want people watching to feel inspired to believe in themselves and take on their own challenges."
Filming for the fourth series begins in Sheffield this month. Stoltman will join the existing Gladiators as contenders prepare to face tests of speed, strength, and endurance. His Gladiator name and first look will be revealed later.
Giant's Departure and Controversy
Stoltman's addition follows the sudden departure of Jamie Bigg, known as Giant. In an emotional Instagram post, Bigg said, "I want to tell you all that I won't be coming back for season 4 of the TV show. Being a Gladiator has been one of the greatest honours of my life. What I do want to make clear is this wasn't a decision I made to step away. I was faced with a choice that didn't align with my values."
Bigg later claimed on Good Morning Britain that he was issued an ultimatum between his relationship with his girlfriend, who runs an OnlyFans account, and the show. He stated that he believed he was axed due to her career. In a recent update, Bigg confirmed he is no longer in the relationship but will not return to the series.
Looking Ahead
The new series of Gladiators is set to air next year. Fans can expect more details about Stoltman's role and the upcoming season in due course.
