Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' has set a new record for the director, achieving his biggest box office debut with $264 million (£196 million) globally, according to Universal Pictures. The film, released on Friday, surpassed the opening of his 2023 blockbuster 'Oppenheimer' and marked his best opening since 2012's 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
Star-Studded Cast and Epic Story
Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, the film is an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic poem. It follows Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, on his perilous 10-year journey home after the Trojan War. The film was released across 73 international markets over the weekend, launching on more than 12,800 locations and 26,000 screens, including 440 IMAX screens. The UK and Ireland led the international box office with $17.4 million (£12.9 million) over three days. Screenings at the BFI IMAX cinema in London were sold out for the opening weekend, with fans arriving as early as midnight and 4am on Friday.
