Tess Daly's Strictly Come Dancing Blunder Sparks Viewer Backlash After On-Air Slip-Up
Tess Daly's Strictly blunder sparks BBC apology

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly found herself at the centre of controversy during Saturday night's live show after making what viewers deemed an inappropriate comment about contestant Bobby Brazier's emotional performance.

The veteran presenter, who has fronted the BBC dance competition since 2005, came under fire moments after Brazier and professional partner Dianne Buswell completed their poignant Couple's Choice routine dedicated to his late mother, Jade Goody.

Viewer Outrage Over 'Insensitive' Remark

As the emotional performance concluded, Daly approached the pair and remarked: "I think you broke me with that one." The comment immediately sparked backlash across social media platforms, with viewers calling the statement "awkward" and "insensitive" given the deeply personal nature of Brazier's dance.

One furious viewer tweeted: "Tess Daly's comment to Bobby Brazier was completely inappropriate. That dance was about his late mother and she made it about herself."

BBC Forced to Issue Immediate Apology

The backlash was so swift and severe that the BBC was compelled to issue an on-air apology during the same broadcast. A spokesperson for the corporation addressed the situation directly, stating: "We apologise for any offence caused by remarks made in the studio following Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell's performance."

This isn't the first time the Strictly hosting team has faced criticism this series. Both Daly and co-host Claudia Winkleman have previously been called out by viewers for their interviewing technique and comments to contestants.

Brazier's Emotional Tribute to Mother Jade Goody

The performance that sparked the controversy saw Brazier, son of the late reality star Jade Goody who died from cervical cancer in 2009, deliver a powerful contemporary routine set to a medley of songs including This Woman's Work by Maxwell.

The 20-year-old EastEnders actor had spoken openly in the week leading up to the performance about using dance as a way to process his grief and honour his mother's memory. The routine received a standing ovation from the studio audience and high praise from the judges, scoring an impressive 39 points.

Despite the off-stage drama, Brazier and Buswell successfully progressed to the next round of the competition, continuing their journey in this year's Strictly contest.
