Tea Bag in Porridge: 1p Ingredient for 'Life-Changing' Flavour

A budget-savvy woman has shared an unusual twist on morning porridge that she claims delivers a 'life-changing' flavour, all for just a penny. While jam and honey are traditional toppings, Carla, a TikTok content creator, insists that adding a tea bag to your bowl is the ultimate flavour combination.

The Tea Bag Porridge Hack

In a viral video, Carla brandished a box of Yorkshire Tea and declared: 'If you love tea and you've not tried putting your tea bag in your porridge, you really must try it.' She particularly recommends Yorkshire Tea's caramelised biscuit flavour, but notes that any tea bag works.

Carla explains the straightforward recipe: add porridge oats to a bowl, place a tea bag on top, add sweetener and water to allow the tea to brew, then microwave for two to three minutes. 'The tea will exude itself into your porridge,' she says.

Toppings and Tips

After heating, Carla topped her porridge with chopped strawberries, plain whey powder for protein, soya crispies, and pistachios. She warns to avoid flavoured whey powder to prevent overpowering the tea taste. 'Obviously the gross bit is removing the tea bag,' she admits, but adds: 'I really recommend this – it's like a way of getting a double-dose of caffeine in the morning.'

She also suggests coffee lovers could try the same with instant coffee, and muses about Earl Grey, English Breakfast, peppermint, or even green tea porridge variations.

Viral Reaction

Carla's video garnered over 200,000 views in four days, sparking enthusiastic responses. One user wrote: 'Tea-infused porridge? Brilliant idea! How about trying a matcha porridge next?' Another shared: 'I love these tea bags so will try this! I recommend the Tesco vanilla chai ones too.'

A third commenter said: 'Coffee porridge is so underrated, add instant coffee to the oats and it's 10/10.' Another revealed: 'I had some Earl Grey porridge in a hotel in Canada and it's one of my favourite meals ever.'

One user suggested ripping open the tea bag and adding leaves directly, but Carla prefers to avoid the texture. Overall, viewers hailed the hack as 'life-changing' and eagerly anticipated trying it themselves.
