Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend Matty Healy appeared to take a swipe at the pop star during The 1975's set at the Glastonbury Festival on Friday. The 36-year-old frontman, drinking Guinness and smoking a cigarette on the Pyramid Stage, raised his glass and told the crowd: 'What this moment is making me realise is that I probably am the best.'
Healy continued: 'I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation. The best, what do we say… A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am.' The remarks were seen as a subtle reference to Swift, whom he dated briefly in 2023, and her latest album The Tortured Poets Department. A video clip shared by Variety captured an audience member saying they believed Healy was referencing Swift.
The singer later called himself a 'generational wordsmith' and said: 'I just wanted to remind you in the next couple of minutes, these lyrics, this poetry, I Bleed For You... take it away boys.' After performing the song Chocolate, Healy backtracked, saying: 'I was only joking about being a poet.'
Healy also addressed the lack of political commentary in the set, seemingly referencing Bruce Springsteen's recent anti-Trump remarks. 'We honestly don't want our legacy to be one of politics,' he said. 'We want it to be that of love and friendship.'
Swift, 35, has been enjoying time off since completing her Eras tour in December 2024. She recently made a surprise appearance with Kane Brown at a Tight End University event co-hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
