Tallulah Willis: cruel comments 'almost starved me to death'

Tallulah Willis, the 32-year-old daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has said she "almost starved to death" after being subjected to cruel social media comments about her appearance.

The actress shared a screen recording of herself scrolling through the comments section of a post featuring an image of her. In the post, she said people may not understand the negative impact such comments can have on a person.

What Tallulah Willis said

Willis wrote: "People seem shocked -genuinely- when I share my experience being called 'medically disfigured' 'or something to fear'."

She continued: "I don't often read these things, but when I do, I remember why I almost starved to death after a lifetime of disordered eating."

She added: "I take pride in that fact that I choose kindness everyday, but I just hope to share with you all the realities that someone who has been unstoppably vulnerable in sharing their ups and downs still gets treated like this on certain corners of the internet. And for the record, I am far from what nightmares are made of #choosekindness."

Comments and support

Among the comments shown were: "Surgery really does amazing things for people," "Bruce is prettier," "I'm sorry but she is not easy looking on the eyes," and "What nightmares are made of."

Willis soon received an outpouring of support. Her husband, musician Justin Acee, wrote: "I love you, you're beautiful." Lindsey Hartman added: "Most beautiful girl." One fan said: "You've come a long way, if they only knew… you're beautiful inside and out."

History of disordered eating

This is not the first time Willis has spoken about her disordered eating, having lived with anorexia. During her struggle, her hair began to fall out. She received treatment at a recovery facility in 2022, which she documented on social media.

Speaking in November 2023 on The Drew Barrymore Show, she explained why she spoke publicly about her struggles: "I felt like the things that had occurred in more recent years. I very visibly was struggling with an eating disorder, and because of the age of social media and that was very present, and there was actually a tremendous amount of concern for me that I got on my Instagram. As I'm early in recovery in that, it's interesting to talk about it because I don’t know if I had my full footing, I'm just trying every day."

Writing in Vogue's May 2023 issue, she disclosed that she had been suffering from anorexia nervosa for the past four years.
