Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, the star of Channel 4's The Supervet, has spoken about a recent accident that left him and his beloved border terrier Keira fighting for their lives. On 18 September, Fitzpatrick and Keira were struck by a delivery van outside his veterinary practice in Surrey. He described the incident as 'millimetres away from death'.
Fitzpatrick, who has treated pets for celebrities including Meghan Markle and Russell Brand, said he heard Keira's body 'explode' as the van hit them. The 13-year-old terrier was rushed into surgery at his own 24-hour veterinary complex, where Fitzpatrick later performed an eight-hour operation to save her shattered pelvis. Keira remains in a critical condition, requiring blood transfusions and intensive care.
The accident came as Fitzpatrick was finishing his new book, 'How Animals Saved My Life: Being The Supervet'. He wrote the final pages just days after the crash, describing the process as 'writing from a place of trauma'. The book explores his lifelong bond with animals and the emotional toll of his work.
Fitzpatrick, known for his groundbreaking bionic limb surgeries, reflected on the incident during an interview at his office, surrounded by skeletons and implants. He admitted he still struggles to come to terms with the accident, which occurred just steps from his consulting room. The Supervet is now in its 15th series, continuing to push boundaries in veterinary medicine.
