Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has made a startling confession about his time on the hit BBC show, revealing deep regret over his partnership with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.
In an exclusive and emotionally charged interview, the Welsh opera singer turned Radio 2 presenter didn't hold back when discussing the intense experience. "I regret it," Evans stated bluntly, pointing directly at the Italian dancer. "I regret I ever did it."
The Toll of Perfection
Evans described Pernice's notoriously rigorous training methods, which have recently come under scrutiny following similar complaints from other celebrity partners, including Amanda Abbington.
"He's a hard taskmaster," Evans explained, acknowledging the dancer's commitment to perfection. "He wants the best and he wants to win. But that comes at a cost."
The singer revealed the partnership took a significant emotional and physical toll, leaving him questioning his decision to participate in the competition despite ultimately appreciating the technical skills he gained.
A Pattern of Behaviour?
Evans's comments come amidst growing controversy surrounding Pernice's teaching style. The professional dancer is currently under investigation by the BBC following formal complaints from several former partners.
Amanda Abbington, who abruptly quit the 2023 series citing medical reasons, reportedly suffered from PTSD following her experience with Pernice and has requested footage of their training sessions.
Looking Back With Mixed Emotions
Despite his regrets about the partnership dynamics, Evans remains proud of his Strictly journey and the unique opportunity it presented.
"It was an amazing experience doing Strictly, he clarified, "but I regret the partnership."
The singer, known to many as the iconic Gio Compario from the Go Compare adverts, has since moved on to presenting duties on BBC Radio 2 and acting roles, including a part in 'Sherlock'.
