Strictly Star's Awkward Pub Experience
Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin found himself at the centre of some light-hearted football banter after watching England's World Cup quarter-final against Norway while on tour in Scotland. The popular dancer is currently travelling across the UK with his Supernova dance tour, performing in cities including Inverness, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh. Nikita took to the stage at Dundee's Caird Hall over the weekend before enjoying some downtime with his friends and girlfriend, Lauren Jaine.
England's Victory Celebrated Amid Scottish Flags
With England taking on Norway on Saturday (July 11), the group headed to a local pub to watch the game - although it was not what they expected. England won and secured their place in the semi-finals with a tense 2-1 victory over Norway, giving Nikita and Lauren plenty to celebrate despite being surrounded by Scotland flags and bunting. Lauren shared the awkward encounter on TikTok, poking fun at the group seemingly being the only England supporters in a Scottish pub.
TikTok Video Goes Viral
Text over the clip read: "Watching the England match in a Scottish pub... send help," while the video was set to Charli xcx's song House, featuring the lyric: "I think I'm gonna die in this house." In the video, Nikita and Lauren can be seen wearing England shirts while pulling exaggerated unimpressed expressions at the camera. Behind them, Scotland flags and bunting decorate the pub, while the venue appears relatively quiet as the match plays out. Lauren also captioned the post: "I didn't realise the Scots hated the English so much." The tongue-in-cheek video quickly gained the attention of viewers across the UK, with over 44,000 views and 2,200 likes.
Scottish Fans Reassure the Couple
Many Scottish football fans took to the comment section to reassure the couple that the rivalry was all part of the game rather than genuine hostility. One person jokingly wrote: "Don't worry it's mostly banter," alongside multiple laughing face emojis. Another user agreed, as they commented: "We don't hate the English, it's just fitba banter." Others couldn’t resist joining in as one user corrected them: "You mean Norwegian pub x." Another praised the group’s confidence, writing: "This was brave, I applaud you," with multiple laughing emojis. One joked that the couple had made themselves obvious from the moment they arrived, adding: "I would say just don't make any sudden movements but your t-shirts gave it away." Meanwhile other users stressed that any rivalry is usually aimed more at football coverage than England supporters themselves. With one user stating: "The hate is for the media, not the English people in general. BTW it's not just the Scots who feel this, it's virtually every other country." Another simply added: "It's football rivalry, nothing personal."
