Williams F1 driver Carlos Sainz extended a personal invitation to Sir Chris Hoy and his wife Sarra to attend the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, after being moved by the Olympic cyclist's cancer documentary.
Sainz Reaches Out After Documentary
The six-time Olympic gold medallist, 50, was diagnosed with stage four terminal prostate cancer three years ago and continues to battle the disease. His story was featured in a BBC documentary titled 'Sir Chris Hoy: Cancer, Courage and Me' in December last year.
Sainz, a Spanish driver for Williams, watched the documentary and decided to contact Hoy directly. Speaking to Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle on the grid, Hoy revealed: "Carlos Sainz messaged me out of the blue and said 'hey, I watched your documentary about you and Sarra and we'd love to host you'. So a massive thanks to Carlos, we saw him earlier, and we'll be cheering him on today."
Hoy's Continued Battle and Charity Work
Hoy was also in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Saturday. Just days before the Grand Prix, he helped raise over a million pounds for cancer charities alongside former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.
The gesture from Sainz highlights the camaraderie and respect within the motorsport community, as the driver showed his true colours by honouring the cycling legend's courage.
