Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, are expected to travel to the UK in mid-July for a major Invictus Games event in Birmingham, marking their first family visit to Harry's home country in nearly four years. The last time Meghan was in Britain was for Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, while Archie and Lilibet last visited for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations months earlier.
Royal accommodation offer
Royal sources have claimed the Sussexes have been offered stays at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle to align with their schedule during the week of their visit. However, it is believed they have yet to accept the invitation. Insiders also revealed that King Charles is likely to meet Harry, Meghan, and the children if the Sussexes request a meeting.
A royal source said: “Any meeting between Harry and Meghan and the King would represent a huge thawing of relations. Despite everything that has occurred in recent years, the King loves his son and daughter-in-law dearly and would relish the chance to see his grandchildren.”
Strained family relations
Harry's relationship with the Royal Family remains strained. He last saw his father in September 2025 when he travelled to London for the annual WellChild Awards, of which he is a patron. The Duke had a 50-minute private tea with the King at Clarence House before continuing his engagements.
It is not known whether Harry and Meghan, or Harry alone, plans to see the Prince and Princess of Wales, as sources have described their relationship as “rock bottom.” One palace insider said: “The Prince and Princess of Wales remain deeply hurt by Harry and Meghan’s comments since leaving their royal duties that they were abandoned and mistreated when part of the royal family.”
Desire for family reunion
According to reports from News.com.au, Harry has longed to bring his family back to his homeland for years. An insider told the publication: “It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.”
They continued: “He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent.” Another inside source told the Telegraph: “He has wanted to have his kids meet their grandfather, especially after their summit in London last year. While there have been deep-seated trust issues around Harry, there is a sense now that all parties want peace.”
Security concerns
The Duke has long cited limited security as a major obstacle to bringing his family to the UK. In May 2025, Harry lost his appeal to reinstate taxpayer-funded security, which was replaced with a “bespoke” arrangement after he stepped back as a working royal. In December, the Home Office decided to review Harry's police protection despite his court loss, but no public update has been given.
However, an inside source told news.com.au that protections have been put in place for the upcoming visit: “You can be assured that if they are coming [to Britain], then he’s satisfied that the conditions have been met to keep them all as safe as possible.”
