Shaun Wallace, known as 'The Dark Destroyer' on ITV's The Chase, has admitted to smoking up to 30 cigarettes a day and putting eight sugars in his coffee before quitting both habits abruptly. The 65-year-old quizzer and barrister described himself as prone to 'obsession' with bad habits before suddenly losing interest.
Speaking to The Sun, Wallace said: 'I’ve always got bad habits, and extreme bad habits too. I used to have eight sugars in my coffee and in my tea. Then I stopped completely. And cigarettes too, I used to smoke 20 to 30 cigarettes a day. Then I just stopped.' He attributed his all-or-nothing approach to his 'Gemini nature'.
Wallace also praised his co-star Mark Labbett, who has lost over 10 stone in recent years. 'I’m really glad that Mark had lost the weight that he had because he did have health issues,' Wallace said. 'Fair play to him to basically grabbing the bull by the horns and taking control of his physical and mental well-being.'
Labbett, who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2017, revealed his weight has dropped from a peak of 29 stone to around 18 stone. He credited a continuous glucose monitoring patch for helping him manage his condition and weight. 'I’d been gradually letting my glucose levels slide and enjoyed too many cheats,' he admitted.
