Scotland Fan in Disguise Surprises Dad in Miami

Lee Barron, a 38-year-old Scotland fan from Perth, executed a meticulously planned surprise for his father Alan in Miami, Florida, after months of coordination by friends and family. Barron flew to the United States on Monday without his father's knowledge, arriving in Fort Lauderdale where he donned an elaborate disguise—sunglasses, a bandana, a fake beard, and fake tattoo sleeves—and adopted an American accent to approach his unsuspecting dad at a local bar.

Heartwarming Disguise and Reveal

In footage shared with the Record, Barron can be seen engaging his father in conversation, asking, "Have you been in Miami long?" and "I bet your son is more handsome than these guys." Alan, 67, had traveled to Boston to watch Scotland at the World Cup before heading south to Miami, and was disappointed that his son could not join him. After roughly four and a half minutes of banter, Lee revealed his Scotland top under his shirt and unmasked himself, leaving his father stunned.

"It went brilliantly. I really did not expect it to go as well as it did. I didn't expect my dad not to catch on. I think we kept it going for four and a half minutes before I eventually had to let the cat out the bag," Lee said. "The surprise was fantastic. Just his reaction in general was fantastic, just to see the utter surprise and shock on his face and disbelief made me feel good about it."

Father-Son Bond Over Scotland Trips

Lee and Alan have attended up to 30 Scotland away games together, starting in 2005. "Scotland trips are a big thing in our family but once you get older and you have family obligations, it's not as easy to get away to these things. So this is a special one. I'm glad I was able to make the trip over for him," Lee added.

The pair spent their first day together in Miami on Tuesday before attending the crucial World Cup match against Brazil last night. Lee described the experience as fantastic, noting the positive reception of the Tartan Army: "We're well loved and it's a great thing to be a part of, it gives you a bit of national pride as well. It's just good to see that we are putting ourselves on the world map in a good way."

Orchestrated by Friends and Family

The surprise was orchestrated by friends Michael Canning and Graeme Leckie, who helped coordinate the logistics. Lee expressed gratitude for their support, emphasizing the special moment for both him and his father.
