Sam Fender treated himself to fish and chips at Marshall's, a popular North East chippy, during a weekend of speculation about his 2027 plans. The visit came after fans spotted a pitch message hinting at a St James' Park return.
St James' Park Hint Sparks Fan Excitement
On Saturday evening, a message reading 'Proper Massive SF 27' appeared on the pitch during Newcastle's 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at St James' Park. The message also showed on a screen inside the ground as Fender watched the match.
The hint added to ongoing rumours that Fender will headline Glastonbury next summer, having last played the Pyramid Stage in 2022.
Marshall's Chippy Visit
Fender also called into Marshall's in Tynemouth, a chippy previously praised by Sam Smith and marked with a plaque commemorating Jimi Hendrix's past visit. Marshall's shared a photo of Fender with a staff member on Facebook, writing: 'the lovely Sam Fender popped in last night for our fresh fish and chips, what a lovely man.'
Fans are also hoping Fender will attend the Mercury Prize at the Utilita Arena on Thursday, where acts including JADE, Olivia Dean, RAYE and Newcastle's on Knats are nominated, following his Album of the Year win for People Watching last year.
