In a heartfelt letter to the Guardian, a close friend recalls first meeting TV producer Sally Head more than 50 years ago, when Guardian journalist Frank Keating brought her as a guest to Sunday lunch. That meeting proved momentous: the next night, Keating announced they had decided to marry.
A Genius for Friendship
After their eventual divorce, Head became a close neighbour, described as having a genius for friendship. She was quick to offer comfort for any ailment and would call after breakfast if she liked something written. Her love of life and people meant she was adored not only by 'mates'—her favourite word—but also by the huge talents she worked with.
