Rylan Clark Apologises for Missing BBC Radio Show

Rylan Clark has issued an apology after being forced to miss his BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday, June 27, because he was stranded abroad. The popular TV personality and former X Factor contestant was in Nice, France, when his return flight was cancelled, leaving him unable to make it back to London in time for his regular afternoon slot.

How Rylan Missed His Show

Rylan, who has hosted his Saturday afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 since 2019, had cleared his diary for a short break with his partner and friends. He explained during a call with his friend Emma Willis, who presents the show before his, that he had planned to fly back early on Saturday morning but was told at the airport that his flight was cancelled.

He considered an eight-hour train journey but realised it would still make him late. Ultimately, he decided to stay an extra day, saying: “I thought, ‘you know what, you’ve done well for yourself, I’m just going to stay another day’.”

Apology and Replacement

Rylan took to Instagram to apologise directly to his listeners, posting a picture of himself enjoying a glass of wine in France. He wrote: “Soz about today’s show. I blame everyone but myself. Genuinely had it all sussed out and then flights all cancelled. Thanks Mark for stepping in you legend. Gonna have a rosé and think of you all.”

Legendary DJ Mark Goodier, who presented on BBC Radio 1 between 1987 and 2002, filled in for Rylan at the last minute. Goodier entertained listeners with holiday tales and the film and TV quiz Couch Potatoes.

BBC and Rylan's Reaction

A BBC spokesperson joked on social media: “Rylan got stranded somewhere Nice…” Rylan cheekily replied: “So unprofessional.” Despite the mishap, Rylan confirmed he will be back on air as usual next Saturday at 3pm.
