Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, hidden in the audience while wearing a full denim version of his Deadpool costume. The 49-year-old actor, who has played Wade Wilson since 2009, hinted he will return to the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
During the event, Reynolds was handed a microphone and teased his potential inclusion in the film, saying: "Look around you. Did you bump your head? ... I see. So there’s no additional photography, no overages, maybe last-minute additions…?"
Deadpool's future in the MCU
Reynolds first played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) before starring in the 2016 R-rated Deadpool, its 2018 sequel, and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which grossed over £1 billion. In April, he posted on social media: "There’s a few really deep cuts that are missing from the movies, I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian [Nicieza] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan is a friend and an incredible comic book writer. There’s stuff coming, there eventually will be another Deadpool film."
Ryan Gosling cast as Ghost Rider
Marvel Studios also announced at Comic-Con that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a standalone film, directed by Shawn Levy. Levy previously directed Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine and the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy told the crowd: "I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans. Gosling is the absolute s**t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!"
Nicolas Cage previously played Ghost Rider in 2007 and 2011, while Gabriel Luna portrayed the Robbie Reyes version on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. A planned Hulu series was cancelled in 2019.
