Lineker and Shearer's All-Time England XI Snubs Big Names
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have selected their all-time England XI, leaving out eight major figures including Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Geoff Hurst, Rio Ferdinand, Kevin Keegan, Sol Campbell, and Bryan Robson. The former strikers, alongside Micah Richards and Joe Cole, built the team based on performances in a Three Lions shirt, resulting in controversial omissions.
Goalkeeper and Defence
In goal, they chose Peter Shilton, England's record appearance holder with 125 caps, who played in five major tournaments: the 1982, 1986, and 1990 World Cups, plus Euro 1984 and 1988. He was part of the squad that reached the 1990 World Cup semi-final. At right-back, Kyle Walker earned his place for his role in England's recent resurgence. The centre-back pairing featured Chelsea legend John Terry alongside World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore, while Ashley Cole was selected at left-back.
Midfield and Attack
In midfield, Paul Gascoigne and Bobby Charlton were named as the central duo, leaving out Lampard and Gerrard. David Beckham and John Barnes were picked on the flanks. Up front, Jimmy Greaves and Harry Kane were chosen, with Rooney and Michael Owen missing out. Sir Alf Ramsey, the only manager to win a World Cup with England, was named as the manager.
