The Rolling Stones have released two new songs: "Devine Intervention" featuring The Cure singer Robert Smith, and "Jealous Lover," accompanied by a video starring actress Anya Taylor-Joy. Both tracks feature former Spencer Davis Group and Traffic musician Steve Winwood on keyboards.
New Singles from Upcoming Album
"Jealous Lover" evokes the band's soul and disco-inspired sound reminiscent of tracks like "Fool To Cry," "Emotional Rescue," and "Miss You." It is the latest single from the forthcoming album Foreign Tongues, following earlier releases "In The Stars" and "Rough And Twisted."
"Devine Intervention," also released on Thursday, showcases the band's blues-tinged rock sound from the early 1970s, with Smith contributing guitar. He appears on two songs on the album.
Video and Guest Appearances
The "Jealous Lover" video, launched on Amazon Music, features former Glee actor Charles Melton. He arrives with Taylor-Joy at a motel before an argument leads her to chase him through the venue, with her character multiplying as she tries to stop him on a staircase.
Winwood appears on keys on both new songs. The album will also feature appearances from former Beatles bassist Sir Paul McCartney, Smith, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
The music video for "In The Stars" featured Marty Supreme star Odessa A’zion, along with CGI versions of the band's younger selves: singer Sir Mick Jagger and guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.
Podcast and Album Release
The Rolling Stones' official podcast, Speaking In Tongues, will release its first episode on Thursday, hosted by singer Norah Jones. Foreign Tongues will be released on July 10 in multiple formats, including CD, cassette, vinyl record, and special box sets.
The album follows 2023's Hackney Diamonds, which also featured Sir Paul playing bass on the song "Bite My Head Off."
Band Legacy
Widely regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, The Rolling Stones have achieved eight UK number one singles and 14 UK number one albums. Their best-known songs include "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction," "Start Me Up," "Brown Sugar," and "Jumpin’ Jack Flash."
The Stones' original lineup included Sir Mick, Richards, and drummer Charlie Watts (who died in 2021), along with guitarist Brian Jones and bassist Bill Wyman. Jones died in 1969, and Wyman left the band in the early 1990s.
Jones was succeeded on guitar by Mick Taylor for a classic run of critically acclaimed albums, including Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971), and Exile On Main Street (1972), before former Faces guitarist Wood joined in 1975.
