Kyle Sandilands to undergo urgent brain surgery after aneurysm diagnosis

Radio host Kyle Sandilands has announced he will undergo immediate brain surgery after being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. The 53-year-old co-host of The Kyle & Jackie O Show revealed the news on air on Monday, following his absence from the programme on Friday due to illness.

Sandilands told listeners he had been suffering from debilitating headaches before his medical team discovered the aneurysm. He showed staff his brain scan, pointing to the aneurysm and stating that if it burst, he would die instantly. He did not specify when the surgery would take place but indicated he could be off air for up to eight weeks.

The broadcaster joked about doctors' instructions to avoid sex and drugs before the procedure, commenting that a life of cocaine abuse and partying was not advisable. He also noted that his wife becomes emotional at the thought of his surgery.

Sandilands and co-host Jackie Henderson have dominated Sydney's breakfast radio ratings for years, topping the slot for 47 consecutive surveys. However, their show has faced controversy, with the Australian Communications and Media Authority finding repeated breaches of decency standards. A recent expansion into Melbourne has also struggled, achieving only a 5% market share.
