Sir Rod Stewart was pictured celebrating Scotland's World Cup victory in the stands at Boston Stadium on Saturday, just hours after cancelling a gig due to illness. The 81-year-old rocker had disappointed fans by pulling out of a performance in Chula Vista, California, on doctor's orders.
Gig Cancellation Due to Illness
Rod Stewart's team announced the cancellation on Instagram, stating: "Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take to the stage this evening."
World Cup Appearance
Hours later, the singer was seen at Scotland's first World Cup match in 28 years against Haiti at Boston Stadium, Foxborough. He shared photos on Instagram of himself and his sons on a private jet heading to the game. "Here we are off to see Scotland in the World Cup. It's been 28 years. And these kids, I've told them about it but they've never been," he wrote.
Rod added: "I've been to seven World Cups. We want to get through to the next round and I'll die a happy man. So go on Scotland!" His sons joined in a chorus of "No Scotland no party!"
Match Result
Scotland held on to defeat Haiti 1-0, with a deflected first-half goal from John McGinn. It was Scotland's first win at the World Cup since a 2-1 victory over Sweden in 1990 and their first at a major tournament since beating Switzerland 1-0 at Euro 96.
