Jordan Miller, lead singer of Canadian rock band The Beaches, stripped down to her underwear while performing on stage at Germany's Hurricane Festival on Thursday to cope with roasting temperatures. Europe has been gripped by an intense heatwave, with thermometers surging past 40 degrees Celsius in many areas.
On-Stage Solution to Extreme Heat
During the chorus of one of the band's songs, Miller removed her skintight dress, revealing only underwear underneath. She continued singing and performing as the crowd cheered. The band posted a clip of the moment on Instagram with the caption: 'Heatwave so bad she had to take off her dress mid-song.'
Mixed Reactions Online
The video sparked divided opinions. One commenter wrote: 'Respectfully, what is the purpose of this? How does it relate to the music?' Another added: 'No sorry but no ? Purpose of this.' However, many defended Miller. One fan said: 'No different than wearing a bikini.' Another wrote: 'These comments did not pass the vibe check.' A third summed up: 'Why is everyone hating we should be saying congrats on not getting heat stroke.'
Broader Commentary on Body Freedom
One commenter highlighted a double standard: 'Here is the thing: If a man shows skin, Nobody complains. If a woman does there will be an absolute outrage and backlash and s*** talking (see in the comments). And as long as that is the case it is important to do stuff like this to normalize bodies and freedom of every person. Not only men. Either everybody can do it or no one.'
The Daily Star noted its support for Miller's actions, stating: 'Here at the Daily Star, we obviously condone such activities – fair play to the lass, it’s hot out there.'
