Comedian Rob Beckett has admitted he is finding it difficult to get into the 2026 World Cup, despite England topping their group and advancing to the knockout stage. The Celebrity Traitors star shared a video on Instagram from his car, confessing that the late kick-off times are dampening his enthusiasm.
Late Kick-Offs Clash with Parenting Duties
In the video, Beckett said: "Don't want to be a Debbie Downer.... Anyone struggling to get into the World Cup but can't admit it?" He explained that matches starting at 10pm, combined with waking up at 6am with his children, have led him to fall asleep by half-time. "10 o'clock start, up with the kids since 6am, may have gone to sleep and went to bed at half time. Is it just me? Don't know what to do," he added.
Beckett's confession resonated with many fans and fellow celebrities. Jamie Laing, who has a newborn, commented: "I made it 20mins in." Harry Judd admitted he did not even watch England's win over Panama, which secured their place in the knockouts, saying: "Up at 5:30 with the kids. Didn’t even make it to kick off." Traitors star Paul Gorton quipped: "Yeah I’m out, see ya in 2030."
Past Enthusiasm Contrasts with Current Struggles
Beckett has historically been a vocal supporter of the England squad, even leaving his wife and children on a family holiday to watch England play in the 2024 Euros. However, the late timing of US-hosted matches has tested his dedication this year.
Some celebrities suggested Beckett could reignite his interest by listening to passionate fans. Bobby Kootstra, partner of comedian Katherine Ryan, advised: "You need a little bit of @lloydgriffith." Lloyd Griffith, co-host of BBC Sounds' Rick & Lloyd's Guide to the World Cup, responded directly: "Get over here mate. I’m balls deep in Budweiser and beef tacos."
Beckett's Career and Celebrity Traitors
Beckett is known for his comedy and work with Romesh Ranganathan. Both will appear in the second series of Celebrity Traitors, alongside Richard E Grant, Maya Jama, and Julie Hesmondhalgh. Filming has shown Beckett and Hesmondhalgh running outside the castle—Beckett in athletic gear for exercise, while Hesmondhalgh, in an oversized orange jumper and boots, broke into an unplanned run, surprising her minder.
