Rihanna has added fresh ink to her collection, and the designs came from the cutest little artists—her own children. The 38-year-old mogul, who recently addressed rumors of a dispute with partner A$AP Rocky at the Met Gala, debuted a new tattoo created by her young kids.
Family Tattoo Inspiration
Rihanna and Rocky, 37, share three children under the age of three: three-year-old son RZA Athelston, two-year-old son Riot Rose, and seven-month-old daughter Rocky Irish. The new tattoo, located on the back of her knee, features abstract scribbles likely drawn by one or both of her older sons.
Celebrity tattoo artist Keith Scott 'Bang Bang' McCurdy documented the session on Instagram. The 40-year-old New York-based artist revealed the inspiration: a piece of paper with the children's scribbles and stickers from the Nickelodeon animated series Paw Patrol. The stickers, however, did not make it into the final tattoo.
Rihanna's Emotional Take on Motherhood
Rihanna seemed delighted with the thoughtful tattoo, admiring it in a mirror while wearing tiny black shorts. Motherhood clearly holds deep significance for the superstar, who became emotional discussing her growing children in a December interview with Extra.
'The babies are amazing. They're all getting bigger, and I cannot take it. My sons—oh, my God!—their faces are changing. Their necks are getting longer. I love it,' she said.
Rocky echoed her sentiments, describing their children as 'cute as ever' and noting that RZA and Riot are 'getting along' better than he anticipated. 'I'm surprised that the older two getting along as much as they are, you know? Usually, you know, for them to be so close in age, they fight a lot, but... happy family,' the rapper said. He admitted their older sons occasionally feel 'a little jealous' of their newborn sister but emphasized the household is filled with love.
Motherhood as a Transformative Journey
In 2023, Rihanna told Vogue that Rocky is her 'best friend' and described motherhood as 'everything.' She recalled her first months as a mother as a rollercoaster, calling childbirth a 'head-f**k' because she couldn't believe she entered the hospital pregnant and left with a baby.
The singer admitted parenthood prompted self-reflection, calling raising her son one of the 'scariest' responsibilities. 'Raising a young Black man is one of the scariest responsibilities in life... You're like, "What am I leaving my kids to? This is the planet they're gonna be living on?"' she said.
Despite challenges, Rihanna insisted motherhood has strengthened her bond with Rocky. 'Everything changes when you have a baby but I wouldn't say it's done anything but made us closer,' she added. She praised Rocky's relationship with their son, noting the baby seeks validation from his father.
Expanding the Family
Just nine months after giving birth to her first child, Rihanna revealed her second pregnancy by debuting her baby bump during her Super Bowl halftime show in 2023. The couple welcomed their third child, daughter Rocky Irish, on September 13, 2025.
In a 2024 interview with Interview magazine, Rihanna said COVID-19 sped up her relationship with Rocky. 'Had it not been for COVID, we would've taken a lot more time to get comfortable with each other, to even know that we were ready,' she explained. She described their romance as unlike any previous experience and always believed Rocky would be a 'great dad.'
The award-winning star, who previously dated Chris Brown and businessman Hassan Jameel, said: 'I let God lead and just let go. Because in previous relationships, I tried and tried and tried my best, and you still feel like it's not enough. So when someone sees you completely, and believes in you, and thinks you're worthy of being the mother of their kids, it's a great feeling. I felt the same about him. I knew he would be a great dad.'
When asked about her achievements, Rihanna shared: 'The only thing that I knew I wanted, or that I could imagine, was motherhood. I didn't know how it would come, but it is the best part of my journey so far. Everything else was a surprise.' As for how many children she wants, she told the magazine: 'As many as God wants me to have.'
