Rupert Everett has revealed that his quest for a perfect physique in the 1990s has left him 'almost crippled'. The 67-year-old actor, known for roles in 'My Best Friend's Wedding' and currently starring in Disney+ series 'Rivals', said he 'ruined' himself by lifting weights without proper technique.
Speaking to The Guardian, Everett explained that he found stretching 'boring' and skipped it, leading to tightened tendons. 'I could never be bothered to do all those things, like stretching, which were necessary for lifting weights,' he said. 'So now my demise will be musculoskeletal, I think.'
Everett also admitted to wearing 'false' muscular bodysuits on camera, as he felt uneasy about his physique since childhood. He claimed directors never noticed, as he would 'go into the fittings for the costumes with all my things on'.
The actor, who rose to fame in the 1980s with 'Another Country', recently clarified that he was not fired from Netflix's 'Emily in Paris'. In August 2025, he issued a statement saying his earlier comments were 'lost in translation' during a festival in Italy.
