Richard E Grant has opened up about his late wife Joan Washington in a series that has just arrived on Netflix. The 69-year-old star said: "My wife embroidered every single cushion that's in this house. So once a year she did a cushion cover or something that was on a frame, of key events, or people or movies or jobs that we did. So that our whole history of our marriage is in these embroidered things around the house."
Embroidered Memories
The camera then cut across to a framed piece of stitchwork by Joan to mark a landmark wedding anniversary. The piece read: "Silver wedding. 25 years of marriage. 1986 - 2011. Joan and Richard. I love you."
He added: "So even though she's not physically here, you know, all the things that she made are still around me."
Personal Tour
The Other Bennet Sister star was speaking in an episode of House & Garden's Design Notes, which was first released in 2024 and recently arrived on Netflix. Richard and his wife, British dialect coach Joan Washington, were married from 1986 until her tragic death in 2021 after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
The couple have one daughter, Olivia Grant, who is a casting director.

Other series now on Netflix include Vogue's The Ultimate British Taste Test, Architectural Digest's "Open Door, Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Test and Town & Country's T&C's Guide To.
The Culture Edit is home to short-form videos, and according to Netflix's Tudum, the new hub will offer "a new way to discover travel inspiration, cooking ideas, fashion trends, celebrity profiles, home and gardening tips, and more". There will be a mixture of old and new content on The Culture Edit for Netflix subscribers to discover.
