Rhian Sugden is reportedly planning to write a tell-all book, 16 years after her sexting scandal with Vernon Kay, as the DJ goes through a divorce from wife Tess Daly. Insiders claim the former Page 3 model is ready to reveal secrets she has kept for years.
Background of the Scandal
In 2010, Vernon Kay, then 52, publicly apologized to Tess Daly on his Radio 1 show after it emerged he had been texting Rhian Sugden following a meeting in a Bolton club. Kay has consistently maintained that the messages were flirty banter and that he never acted inappropriately.
Renewed Interest After Divorce Announcement
Earlier this year, Kay announced his split from Tess Daly, 57, after 22 years of marriage. The divorce announcement in May sparked renewed interest from book publishers in Sugden. A source said: "Rhian has been approached for a tell-all book deal in a bid to get her to spill all on what really happened with Vernon. She's never spoken out publicly about everything that happened with Vernon and she's kept a lot of secrets over the years to protect his reputation while it inadvertently destroyed hers."
Sugden's Perspective
Rhian Sugden, now 39, is married to ex-Coronation Street actor Oliver Mellor, and the couple have a two-year-old son, George. She previously claimed the scandal ruined her career and that Vernon "got away with it" after apologizing. A source who knew Vernon in 2010 added: "There's so much more to this story than has ever been told."
Vernon Kay's Apology
After the scandal broke, Kay apologized publicly on his radio show, stating: "I've let down my wife, Tess. I'm an idiot. I've been stupid and daft, but I'm not a sex pest. In some ways, I'm glad this story has come out. It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders." He added: "I knew it was getting silly. I'm never going to do it again, and hopefully I can clear the slate clean and start again."
A representative for Vernon was approached for comment.
