The Princess of Wales completed Britain's gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend, appearing unrecognisable to many on the trail. A fellow hiker who met her on Ben Nevis shared his account on Instagram, describing her as modest and inspiring.
Hiker's Surprise Encounter on Ben Nevis
Jacky Leung, who posted to his 5,500 followers, recounted spotting a "very lean female hiker" while two cameramen set up nearby. He wrote: "I was speechless once I saw her and could not respond with any proper names to greet her. Just feeling so confused and so psyched at that split-second." Leung told Catherine she was "so inspiring," to which she replied simply, "Thank you," before power-walking uphill with strong spirit. He noted that most hikers did not recognise the princess as she ascended.
Challenge Details and Family Support
The 44-year-old royal finished the challenge, which involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—within 24 hours. Her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, congratulated her at the finish line, along with other relatives.
Catherine's Reflection on Cancer
Following her achievement, Catherine spoke about how cancer "profoundly affects every aspect of life." She revealed she undertook the Three Peaks "not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back." The princess has been undergoing treatment for cancer, and her participation in the challenge was seen as a demonstration of her resilience.
Public Reaction
Leung's post concluded: "Completing the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours is a serious test of grit, and Her Royal Highness showed immense strength and spirit. Deepest respect to Her Royal Highness for such an incredible feat of endurance!" The encounter highlighted the princess's down-to-earth nature, even as she undertakes extraordinary physical feats.
