Princess Kate Scans Tickets at Wimbledon, Stuns BBC Commentator

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon on day four, stunning a BBC commentator by personally scanning tickets for fans entering the grounds. The 44-year-old royal, a patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club (AELTC), arrived at SW19 on Thursday, July 2, 2026, and immediately engaged with the public.

Humble Act Leaves Commentator Speechless

BBC commentator Chris Bradnam was left staggered after learning that Kate had been scanning tickets for spectators. "Her Royal Highness, Catherine Princess of Wales, she's been on duty today, mixing it with the fans, and scanning tickets!" Bradnam said on air. "Our floor manager Tim told me that – who'd have thought, they'd have been meeting her scanning her ticket, coming into the grounds today, and now [sat] in the middle of fans." His co-commentator, former British tennis player Kyle Edmund, responded with astonishment: “Is that right!”

Mixing with Fans After Three Peaks Challenge

Fresh from completing the Three Peaks Challenge at the weekend to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital, Kate spoke to tennis fans who had spent hours waiting in the famous Wimbledon queue. The queue often contains thousands of supporters hoping to purchase day tickets. She went beyond conversation, later spotted scanning tickets for those entering. BBC Wimbledon presenter Isa Guha noted, "She surprised some fans. That was a lovely moment for them to be able to meet her."

Watching Matches and Supporting Youth

Kate later appeared on Court 18, sitting alongside former British No. 1 Tim Henman and All England Club chair Deborah Jevans to watch Britain's Arthur Fery in his second-round match against Finland's Otto Virtanen. She slipped into the court unnoticed during a break in the fifth game of the first set, with Fery leading 3-2 on serve but trailing 1-0 in sets. After watching some of the match, Kate left with Henman and entered the tournament's media centre. She was then chaperoned to the players' and hospitality area, where she met children from the local Shine Camera Club, which supports disadvantaged children through photography.

Further Appearances and Interview Plans

Later in the afternoon, Kate was spotted on cameras at No. 1 Court watching Katie Swan against No. 26 seed Madison Keys, this time accompanied by Andy Murray and Anne Keothavong. Isa Guha revealed that Kate planned to give an interview with former women's tennis player Keothavong later on Thursday. "The Princess of Wales has been watching on on Court 18 with Tim Henman. She came in a little bit earlier," Guha said. "She spoke to some spectators over at the Hill. She's always a favourite here at the Championships. I believe she's going to be chatting to Anne Keothavong a little bit later as well."
