The Prince of Wales has never been seen wearing a wedding ring, and the reason is straightforward: he does not like jewelry. While his brother, Prince Harry, always sports his wedding band, the future King has opted out since his marriage to Catherine in 2011.
Personal Preference Over Tradition
Just before the royal wedding in 2011, palace sources told the Mirror that William would not be wearing a wedding ring. “He’s not one for jewellery. He’s never worn any,” a source said. “He decided he didn't want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.”
Princess Catherine, on the other hand, has rarely parted with her iconic engagement ring, paired with her Welsh gold wedding band since 2010.
Royal Male Tradition
The late Queen’s husband, Prince Philip, also never wore a wedding band. Royal commentator Eloise Parker told Marie Claire in 2018: “Although it’s traditional for royal women to wear both an engagement ring and a wedding ring after they get married, it’s never been traditional for royal men to wear one.” She added: “That’s why Prince Philip and Prince William don’t wear them. I think when you have a wedding watched by millions, everyone knows you’re married.”
William’s decision is thus rooted in both personal taste and longstanding royal custom, making his bare ring finger a deliberate choice rather than an oversight.
