Prince Harry gives three-word update on King Charles's health
Prince Harry: King Charles 'getting better' in health update

Prince Harry has said King Charles is "getting better" in a rare three-word update on the monarch's health, shared during a recent interview with GQ magazine.

The Duke of Sussex sat down with GQ for a wide-ranging conversation covering grief, family drama and his return to the UK. When asked about his father, Harry gave a candid response about the King's condition, which has been the subject of public concern since Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in 2024.

Harry's candid comments on grief

In the interview, Harry was asked whether he feels any anticipatory grief over his father since the cancer diagnosis. He answered: "Yes, I have. And I think that is perhaps helpful."

He added: "It's the one thing that we are all going to experience, which is the loss of a parent, both parents, and the loss of friends. That's universal."

Asked whether his father's health battle over the last few years has been "triggering", given the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997, Harry replied: "Yes, but he's getting better. So, yeah."

He continued: "I think there's a big difference between losing one parent and losing two."

The King has expressed gratitude to the public for the well wishes he has received since his diagnosis, and has also highlighted charities involved in cancer care. In a message of support to Stand Up To Cancer last year, Charles said: "I know from my own experience that a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Yet I also know that early detection is the key that can transform treatment journeys, giving invaluable time to medical teams – and, to their patients, the precious gift of hope."

He added: "These are gifts we can all help deliver. Throughout my own cancer journey, I have been profoundly moved by what I can only call the 'community of care' that surrounds every cancer patient - the specialists, the nurses, researchers and volunteers who work tirelessly to save and improve lives."

Harry and the King last saw each other a few months ago at Highgrove House. It remains unclear whether the monarch has seen his youngest son since Harry moved back to Britain in August.
