Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing scrutiny over their decision to move back to the UK as the Sussexes were reminded of their past statements regarding their bond with the country. The couple are set to return later this month and will live in a non-royal residence outside of London. King Charles is understood to welcome the opportunity to see more of the family in a private and personal capacity.
GB News presenter lists Harry's past statements
But the couple have been slammed as GB News presenter Patrick Christys listed what Harry has said about Britain in the past. Just about 15 months ago, Harry famously said he could not foresee or imagine bringing his family back to the UK due to ongoing security fears following his legal battles over police protection.
Christys said: "Prince Harry explicitly labelled the UK tabloid media as 'bigoted', stating that they actively manufactured a toxic environment rooted in control and fear. Well, with respect, moving back to that country with that same press, which he has just unsuccessfully tried to sue, it's probably not going to be a great idea for him."
Conspiracy theory and mental health triggers
Christys added: "I can't help but wonder whether or not, with my conspiracy theory on, he knew that this is in the pipeline and he wanted to secure a victory over them before. He came back in order to try to get them to back off. Knowing that his family would be here, he said that they were the driving force behind his family's exit from the country."
Patrick also pointed out that Harry had said that being in London "acts as a mental health trigger" for him because of the trauma of his mother Princess Diana's death, and also his experience with the British media.
Oprah interview and children's schooling
Patrick then mentioned the "iconic moment" of the Oprah Winfrey interview where Harry and Meghan brought up the "awkward conversation" about his children's skin colour. "I will rattle this off the British monarchy and institutional racism, some of the allegations that they made there, concerns over the skin tone of one of their children," he continued before playing the excerpt, adding: "But now, after all of that, Meghan and Harry are moving back to Britain."
Harry and Meghan's children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are enrolled to start at a British school in September. This came after they visited the King at his Highgrove home in July this year, but it is understood the move was not discussed.
