Wrexham are plotting an ambitious double swoop for Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha and free agent Axel Tuanzebe, according to reports.
After narrowly missing out on a play-off place last season, Phil Parkinson's side are determined to go one step further in this campaign, with a fairytale promotion to the Premier League the ultimate aim. Having overseen a signing frenzy last summer, co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have prioritised quality over quantity this time around with some significant acquisitions made.
Summer spending spree
Crystal Palace defender Danny Imray, Preston North End captain Ben Whiteman and Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson have all already arrived at the Racecourse Ground this summer, with Wrexham reportedly spending a combined £16 million on the trio.
Now, the Welsh side appear to be lining up two new signings in Nmecha and Tuanzebe, both of whom featured regularly in the top flight last season.
Nmecha and Tuanzebe targets
Manchester City academy product Nmecha scored six goals in 31 Premier League appearances for Leeds over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, following his move from Wolfsburg last summer.
The German international has previously played in the Championship during loan spells with Preston and Middlesbrough, and the Daily Mail reports that Wrexham are keen to convince the 27-year-old to step down and play in the second tier again this season.
Former Manchester United defender Tuanzebe is also target for the Championship side, according to the publication, with the 28-year-old now a free agent after his contract with Burnley expired. He made 14 appearances for the Clarets in the top flight last season, seeing his involvement limited due to injury having had struggles throughout his career.
Tuanzebe made 37 first-team appearances for the Red Devils before spells with Aston Villa, Napoli, Stoke City and Ipswich Town.
Falchener deal also pursued
The DR Congo international has been linked with a move to Premier League new boys Hull City following his exit from Turf Moor, but Wrexham are now reportedly in talks with him as they look to strike another ambitious deal.
It comes days after the North Wales side were reported to be pursuing a deal for Viking Stavanger centre back Henrik Falchener. The Norway international starred at this summer's World Cup and Viking sporting director Erik Nevland has since confirmed that Wrexham have offered "an incredibly large sum of money" to land him.
The offer in question is believed to be in the region of £8.1 million, including bonuses, having already had two bids rejected. Asked whether it was difficult to reject Wrexham's initial offers, Falchener said: "It depends on how you define 'difficult,' but we're talking about incredibly large sums of money. Sums and offers that command respect, and that we've never even come close to in the club's history."
