A young mum from Telford, Shropshire, was left astonished after learning she and her own mother were both expecting babies at the same time, later giving birth to sons just eight weeks apart.
Double Pregnancy Surprise
Meire Higgins, 21, discovered she was pregnant with her first child Grayson, now two, in May 2023 when she was just 18 years old. Then, merely two months later, her mum Jodie Higgins, 39, announced she was also carrying a baby. Neither pregnancy had been planned, leaving both women absolutely astonished by the revelation.
Despite the initial shock, the duo rapidly warmed to the situation and supported each other through every phase of their pregnancies. They attended medical appointments together, assisted with arranging one another's gender reveals, and spent months tracking their expanding baby bumps side by side.
A Bond That Grew Stronger
Meire, a stay-at-home mum, said: "Mum was so excited when I found out I was pregnant, she said she hoped it'd be a boy. Two months later, mum found out she was pregnant as well, she was scared to tell me at first, as she didn't want to take the spotlight off me." However, Meire emphasised she was delighted by the revelation, assuring her mum she "wouldn't want to go through pregnancy with anyone else". She characterised the joint journey as "truly the best experience" she had ever encountered.
The family's excitement soared further when both women discovered they were each expecting boys. Friends and relatives reportedly snapped up matching outfits for the babies before they had even arrived.
Two Boys, One Unbreakable Bond
Meire gave birth to son Grayson on Christmas Day 2023, before Jodie welcomed baby Roux Bear two months later. Despite technically being uncle and nephew, the boys share a bond more akin to that of brothers. "The two boys are now inseparable and run around playing with each other all day," Meire said. "Their bond is truly amazing."
Jodie, who is also mum to a 13-year-old, 10-year-old, and three-year-old, confessed she never anticipated falling pregnant again. She had originally thought her family was complete and was looking forward to stepping into the role of grandmother. Jodie said: "I wanted to enjoy being a nan and thought I was too old to do it again. I loved sharing every stage with Meire from scans to growing bumps, shopping for matching outfits for them, seeing my beautiful grandson being born and enjoying newborn cuddles even before my own baby arrived."
The pair say their pregnancies brought them even closer together, with Meire describing her mum as her "best friend". Because Jodie had her at 17, they have always enjoyed a particularly tight-knit relationship. Both boys now attend the same nursery and spend much of their time together. Meire hopes their strong family bond means the two will always be there for one another as they grow up side by side.
