Pointless Contestant Still Haunted by Failure 12 Years On

A former contestant on BBC's Pointless has confessed they are "still haunted" by their performance on the show more than 10 years after appearing. The participant shared their behind-the-scenes experience on Reddit, detailing a humiliating first-round exit.

First-Round Disaster

The contestant explained that during the head-to-head first round, they had to identify pop musicians. Their opponents were secondary school teachers familiar with current music, including Rita Ora. "I still hold a grudge against her," the contestant said.

The following day, the pair was eliminated in the first round. The category was words ending in "LK." The contestant's partner scored well with "caulk," but the contestant, going seventh, gambled on "backtalk." They admitted, "It is passably one word as an Americanism, but it is not in the OED, so I scored the full 100, and we were out."

Aftermath and Reflections

Other contestants were surprised by their early exit, as they had an "intellectual aura." The pair ended their day with a "slightly miserable hot chocolate" at a Costa Coffee in Westfield before heading home.

This is not the first time a former contestant has shared their experience. Milly Fyfe, who appeared with her husband Andrew last year, revealed that host Alexander Armstrong was less engaging off-camera. Speaking to Express on behalf of OLBG, Milly said, "There wasn't really any engagement with him off-camera. He was basically going over doing his emails, or he went into his dressing room." She added that on camera, he was great, but she expected more interaction with contestants.
