Piers Morgan has reacted to the announcement of a new memoir by Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana. The book, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, is set to be published next month and will cover Diana's early life, marriage and death.
Spencer's Motivation for the Memoir
Charles Spencer explained his decision to write the book, citing the upcoming 30th anniversary of Diana's death. He said he had been "inundated yet again with requests for interviews" about his sister, which convinced him to write down his own thoughts and memories "once and for all."
He expressed discomfort with reading the opinions of others, many of which he said are based on "untruths that have become accepted over time."
Piers Morgan's Reaction
Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan shared his thoughts on X/Twitter, writing: "Wow.. this might rattle a few Royal tiaras..."
Some fans expressed outrage at the book's release. One commenter said: "The dirt has already been published years ago. I hope his book really is positive. Let her rest." Another added: "Diana is gone. At what point will he let her be. Rattle no. Showing he is continuing to try and make more money off her once again."
A third person said: "I get it why he might want to write a book to 'right the wrong' things said about his sister. I just hope it is an honest and sincere telling of his sister. I also hope he had the support of his sisters and William."
Background on Spencer's Eulogy
Spencer delivered the eulogy at Diana's funeral at Westminster Abbey in September 1997, following her death on August 31. He said the aim of the book is to "tell the truth about Diana from her brother's perspective," similar to his eulogy, and to speak on her behalf "in an openly positive way."
He added that he hopes the book will interest those who cherish Diana's memory and help younger readers understand who she was: "a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt."
