Piers Morgan delivered a scathing verdict on "Megxit" following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to Britain. The Uncensored host, 61, vented his frustrations on air during his show on Friday, branding their comeback a disaster.
It comes amid reports the Duchess of Sussex, 44, aims to shun the limelight as she settles her family in Britain. Meghan Markle wants to ensure her son Archie, seven, and daughter Lilibet, five, are fully adjusted in their new schools and home. It has now been claimed she has pulled out of two events she was expected to attend alongside her husband Prince Harry.
Morgan's brutal takedown
In a brutal takedown, Piers addressed the couple stepping down from their royal duties in 2020 and how their move to Montecito, California did not go to plan. He said: "Harry and Meghan need the Royal Family more than the Royal Family needs them because the monarchy will always be top dogs. The institution survives the changing names and faces. The national symbol goes on. That's the point of it."
He continued: "That's exactly what they chose to walk away from when they flounced off to the new imagined riches of California." In a bombshell five word admission, he declared the couple are on a "one-way ticket to irrelevance" in a brutal blow.
Social media divide
Piers went on: "They might have physically returned to the UK but Megxit was a one-way ticket to irrelevance." His comments sparked a divide as social media users defended the Sussexes, with some blasting Piers as "obsessed".
One said: "So obsessed with them. You keep telling your viewers that the public don't like them- What public?" Another echoed: "Man obsessed with H & M because he got challenged by it before, and he ran out of the studio." While a third added: "It's ridiculous to waste time with this subject." Others agreed with the presenter as one remarked: "Well said."
Meghan's low profile
Elsewhere, the Duchess has reportedly been dealt a huge blow and is expected to remain out of the limelight for several weeks, according to reports. A source told The Sun: "There are a lot of things to arrange. Meghan is totally focused on getting the kids settled for now."
Harry is set to mark his comeback with a string of engagements. He is expected to appear at this month's annual WellChild Awards.
