Piers Morgan Accuses Harry and Meghan of 'Double Standards' Over Kids' Photos
Piers Morgan Accuses Harry and Meghan of 'Double Standards'

Piers Morgan has accused Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of 'double standards', claiming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex undermine their own privacy message by sharing images of their children on social media. The broadcaster, a long-time critic of the couple, made the remarks during an interview with Woman & Home.

Morgan Questions Sussexes' Online Conduct

Morgan questioned why the couple share photographs of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet despite repeatedly speaking about the dangers of social media. 'My old friends the Duke and Duchess of Sussex keep preaching to us about privacy and about the need to be careful online, and how dangerous it is for kids – and then what did they do? They upload photographs of their five-year-old child on social media to billions of people, immediately recognisable,' he said.

The 60-year-old broadcaster said he could not understand the decision, arguing it contradicted the couple's public stance on online safety. 'What are you doing? What is this about? Why would you preach about privacy? Why would you lecture the world to be very careful with children online and then put your own child out there to millions of people? It makes no sense to me,' he added.

Accusations of Hypocrisy

Morgan viewed the move as an example of what he called the Sussexes' 'double standards'. 'If you are going to start preaching about stuff, at least try and live up to it. Don't immediately do something which is the complete opposite of what you've been preaching about,' he said.

The comments come ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games, with reports suggesting Harry and Meghan could bring Archie and Lilibet to the UK for the first time in several years as part of countdown events. Speaking on 5's The Royals Uncensored, Morgan questioned whether the public could trust the couple. 'How do you trust these two? They're going to bring the kids that they keep preaching to the world about privacy... Meantime, she's out there, pumping week after week, more and more pictures of their kids. There's an absolute hypocrisy there which I find, honestly, frankly, quite sickening,' he said.

Morgan's History of Criticism

Morgan has repeatedly criticised the Sussexes since before they stepped back as senior working royals in 2020. In 2019, he branded the couple 'rank hypocrites' over their use of private jets while campaigning on environmental issues. The broadcaster also reflected on his own media career, saying he believes public figures should complain less about scrutiny. 'I think the celebrity public-figure side shouldn't whine too much. Mick Jagger has it right – never complain, never explain,' he said.

Morgan added that he believes digital platforms such as YouTube are now overtaking traditional television, pointing to the continued growth of his Piers Morgan Uncensored programme.
