Fans of James Bond legend Pierce Brosnan have launched a fierce defence of the actor and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, after a vicious online troll targeted their long-lasting marriage.
Vile Social Media Attack Sparks Outrage
The incident unfolded on Sunday when a commentator on X, formerly Twitter, shared a series of comparison photographs of the couple. The post juxtaposed a red-carpet image from the Academy Awards in 1996 with a more recent photo from the premiere of 'Mamma Mia!' in 2008. Accompanying the images was a horrendous claim that the pair were a 'reminder to avoid marriage'.
The malicious post quickly ignited fury among Brosnan's supporters and the wider public. They were swift to condemn the troll's shallow and cruel perspective, arguing that the Brosnans represent the very opposite: a rare and enduring Hollywood love story.
Fans Hail a 'Beautiful' and 'Lasting Union'
In a powerful show of support, hundreds of social media users flooded the platform with messages championing the couple's 30-year relationship. Many pointed out that Brosnan, 72, and Smith, 62, who tied the knot in 2001, have built one of the most stable partnerships in the entertainment industry.
One fan wrote: "I don't get some men on X devotion to degrade Brosnan's wife. They're both happy, aging gracefully, and she was & is absolutely gorgeous."
Another added: "Dude’s been married 30 years and they’ve both aged gracefully. He's won the lottery of life." This sentiment was echoed widely, with others describing the pair as "the poster couple for true and lasting love" in a world of fleeting celebrity romances.
Further supportive comments highlighted the troll's own shortcomings:
- "Agreed. If you're this shallow and stupid, you should avoid marriage at all costs. Sincerely, women everywhere..."
- "She is such a beautiful woman. How lucky they are to share that bond over so many years."
- "Dear men and women. This is what lifelong love looks like…. Enjoy it. It’s hard to find."
A Bond Built on Love and Perseverance
Pierce Brosnan, who tragically lost his first wife, Cassandra Harris, to cancer in 1991, has often spoken publicly about his deep love for Keely. The couple met in 1994 in Mexico and have two sons together: Dylan, 29, and Paris, 24.
In an interview just last June, the actor reflected on their life together, stating he felt 'blessed'. "Keely and I love each other and are blessed to have each other as companions in this life," he said. "And we've created a good life for ourselves of hard work and perseverance of life."
When asked about the secret to their lasting union, Brosnan offered a refreshingly pragmatic view: "You know, it's just solving one problem after the [other], whether it's the washing machine or how far the finances are going to go or what your dreams are…"
Keely Shaye Smith, a former actress turned journalist and documentary-maker, has also spoken of their instant connection, recalling Brosnan's "mischievous sparkle in his eyes" when they first met. For his part, Brosnan has said, "I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good."
This is not the first time Brosnan has had to confront trolling about his wife's appearance, having previously responded with grace and defiance. The latest incident has served only to reinforce public admiration for a couple who continue to define commitment and happiness on their own terms.
