Perez Hilton, the 48-year-old Celebrity Big Brother star, is receiving medical treatment in hospital after a concerning TikTok livestream, his family has confirmed. The social media personality, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, sparked alarm when he appeared to self-harm during the broadcast, seemingly covered in blood and holding a knife.
Emergency Response in Miami
Emergency services were called to Hilton's home in Miami on Tuesday (August 4) after worried viewers reported a man "livestreaming acts of self-harm." The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office told US media that an individual had been safely recovered and transported to a local hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
In a statement, the Sheriff's office explained that deputies located the residence, spoke with family members on scene, and confirmed he was alone inside. Authorities decided to "tactically disengage while continuing to monitor the situation and providing the needed support to his family."
Family Statement
Hilton's family released a statement on his website titled "An Update From Perez Hilton Team & Family," expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. It read: "Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers.
"We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being. We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time."
Police and TikTok Response
The Sheriff's office noted that in such incidents, deputies prioritise de-escalation, creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication to reduce the risk of injury to all involved. Hilton's TikTok account has been suspended; TikTok said the livestream was flagged within minutes for review, but a moderator error caused a delay in removal, and law enforcement was alerted.
