Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has been taken to hospital after appearing to harm himself during a TikTok livestream, prompting concerned viewers to contact emergency services.
Police Response
Deputies from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office (MDSCO) were called to Hilton’s Florida home on Tuesday after viewers feared he had hurt himself. Authorities found the 48-year-old alone inside the property.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office told CNN they “received multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.” Deputies quickly located the residence, spoke with family members on scene, and confirmed he was alone inside.
De-escalation and Support
In a statement, the sheriff’s office highlighted their approach: “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilising crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of injury to the individual, deputies and the public.”
The crisis response unit and licensed mental health professionals were dispatched, and support was provided for Hilton’s family. Hilton was “safely recovered” and transported to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His current condition has not been confirmed.
Recent Health Struggles
After the livestream ended, graphic clips allegedly showing Hilton covered in blood circulated on social media. This incident follows a series of serious health problems for Hilton. In March, he revealed he had been hospitalised with severe sepsis in Las Vegas. Weeks later, he returned to hospital with a deep vein thrombosis in his right leg and underwent a thrombectomy to remove a blood clot.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr, rose to fame in the 2000s with his celebrity gossip website PerezHilton.com and has been a prominent online personality for over two decades. He is a father to three children, welcomed via surrogacy: a son born in 2013 and two daughters born in 2015 and 2017.
