80s music legend Paul Young has been delighting fans in the North East this week with a series of concerts, and he made a memorable stop at a local restaurant before taking the stage. Staff at Sambuca in Consett were thrilled to host the iconic singer, who dined at the Victoria Road establishment just hours before his performance at the Empire in Consett on Friday evening.
A Surprise Visit
Paul Young, now 70 years old, is known worldwide for hits like Everytime You Go Away, Love of the Common People, and Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home). He performed two gigs in the North East: one at the Whitley Bay Playhouse on Thursday and another at the Empire in Consett on Friday. Before the latter, he chose to dine at Sambuca, a popular restaurant in the area.
Staff shared their excitement on Facebook, posting a photo with the singer and writing: "We had the pleasure of hosting Paul Young today. Thank you so much for choosing us! And of course, our Pete had to make it into the picture too." The post quickly garnered reactions from fans and regular customers, many of whom expressed regret at missing the chance to see the legend in person.
Fan Reactions
The comment section of the Facebook post was filled with playful references to Paul Young's song lyrics. One regular quipped: "When he left did you sing 'every time you go away, you'll take a piece of meat with you?'" and added: "Or did you just tell him to 'come back (please hurry) and stay for good this time'?" Another fan asked: "Wherever did he leave his hat?" while a local expressed astonishment: "Eeee paul young in Consett well I never!"
Sambuca's New Home
Sambuca in Consett is relatively new to its current location, having moved into the former restaurant and cocktail bar The Old Court House towards the end of last year. The venue has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
