Pakistani singer Tariq Tafu, best known for his cultural hit 'Lahore Lahore Aye', passed away on Monday 22 June at the age of 58, just one day after posting a haunting Father's Day tribute to his late father on Facebook.
Sudden Illness and Death
Tafu was admitted to a private hospital after suffering severe abdominal pain. His condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his death. The singer came from a renowned musical family: his father was legendary composer and tabla virtuoso Ustad Tafu, who died in October 2024. His brother is composer and tabla master Ustad Wajid Tafu, his father-in-law is revered ghazal singer Ustad Ghulam Ali, and his brother-in-law is vocalist Shabnam Majeed.
Final Facebook Post
On Sunday, 21 June, Tafu shared a photo with his father on Facebook, writing: 'Happy Father's Day Love you Ustad Tafu ji and Dady Jain and Miss you a lot, life is just passing by without you... May Allah elevate your status.' The post came just 24 hours before his death.
Career and Legacy
Released in 2004, 'Lahore Lahore Aye' became one of Pakistan's most treasured cultural songs. In recognition of his contributions to music and culture, Tafu received the Pride of Pakistan shield in late 2025. He was also a passionate supporter of emerging artists, championing new talent throughout his career.

Following news of his death, fans flooded social media with tributes. One wrote: 'May Allah grant him Jannah in the best possible place, Amen. Miss you Tariq brother.' Another said: 'He was my hero, my Rohani music guru. I met him in 2020. Memorable moments of my life. Really, I miss him, very sad news.' A third added: 'Deeply saddened by the passing of Tariq Tafu.
