Oti Mabuse red-faced over Strictly co-star name blunder

Oti Mabuse was left red-faced after failing to recall the name of a former Strictly Come Dancing co-star during a television appearance. The dancer, who joined the BBC programme in 2015 and left in 2022, was taking part in Iain Stirling's Roast the Internet when she struggled to identify Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell.

Name game goes wrong

While appearing on the show alongside Ivo Graham and Sara Pascoe, Oti was quizzed by Iain about former Strictly contestants. She correctly recognised her 2020 dance partner Bill Bailey, with whom she won the glitterball trophy, and I'm A Celebrity colleague Reverend Richard Coles.

However, she pulled a face as she momentarily blanked on Anneka Rice's surname before correctly answering. She then stumbled when trying to recall another star's name.

Daniel O'Donnell moment

"Ireland will kick me out if I get this one wrong," she confessed, adding: "Oh no," as his name escaped her. "This is the Cliff Richard of Ireland," Iain chimed in. Struggling to remember, Oti recalled that the star had once sung for her and she'd shared a clip of it. As she debated whether it was Danny Boyle or Danny Jones, Iain clarified: "It's Daniel O'Donnell!"

Daniel appeared on Strictly during Oti's debut year in 2015, where he was paired with Kristina Rihanoff before becoming the third celebrity to be eliminated. Oti was left blushing over her gaffe, while Iain applauded: "That was unbelievable, can we all give it up for Oti Mabuse?"

Iain Stirling's Roast the Internet airs at 9pm on Comedy Central on Monday 19th October.
