Liam Gallagher has publicly criticised his brother Noel for failing to attend Sunday's One Love Manchester benefit concert, where fans had hoped for an Oasis reunion. Taking to Twitter after the event, Liam expressed his disappointment, tweeting: 'I'd like to apologise for my brother's absence last night very disappointed.'
During the concert at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Liam performed a medley of Oasis songs solo, dashing hopes of a sibling reunion. He later tweeted: 'If anybody's seen rkid tell him he can come out now as you were.' According to Liam, Noel was abroad and could have flown back to honour victims of the Manchester Arena attack.
Liam emphasised that the event was not about an Oasis reunion but 'people helping other people'. However, his comments have sparked debate among fans, with some questioning the timing of the public feud. One fan tweeted that Noel was entitled to his choice, while another used a meme to agree with Liam's sentiment but not his delivery.
Representatives for Noel Gallagher referred to a statement issued last week, which said: 'Sadly, Noel will not be at the concert this weekend. He's been out of the country on a longstanding family trip since before the concert was announced and is unable to attend. Needless to say he is very supportive of the event and wishes everyone huge success on the day.'
A spokesperson for the concert organisers added: 'Sunday's concert was a huge success and we are all dismayed that there is negativity aimed towards Noel Gallagher. We were extremely pleased when, last week, Noel not only gave his blessing for us to use his songs, but also told us that he was donating his royalties from Don't Look Back In Anger to the fund.'
